Blue Ox Word Shop

Blue Ox Word Shop is owned and operated by Jen Niemela, a content writer and strategist in the Twin Cities who approached me to help her build a web presence for her business.

Jen’s design aesthetic was very clear; she asked specifically for a scrolling homepage that had parallax backgrounds. She also had a hand drawn illustration of Babe the Blue Ox that needed to be converted to a vector format suitable for use on the web.

I suggested a pre-made template called Brooklyn, and Jen had the idea to incorporate a video background with scenes in a forest to symbolize the outdoors culture and warmth of a Minnesota audience. The result is a lovely one-page design that perfectly represents Jen’s demeanor and personality as a writer, strategist and collaborator.

This project took about seven days to complete. A site like this with a pre-made theme is generally a good choice for small businesses and sole proprietors because they can be built quickly and are suitable for smaller budgets.
